Speakers
Dr Louise Robinson is a specialist palliative care consultant based at the West Middlesex site of Chelsea and Westminster hospital in London. She the Medical Lead for End-of-Life Care at the trust. Alongside her clinical role, one of her key interests is supporting end of life care education and training for healthcare professionals, including communication skills and concepts.
She and Dr Field-Smith developed a guide to compassionate telephone communication during the COVID pandemic that was rapidly adopted nationally and internationally. They are now launching another guide, in collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians, to support clinicians to have honest conversations about goals of treatment and uncertain recovery in the urgent care setting.
Dr Antonia Field-Smith is a consultant in palliative medicine – HomeFirst Service and Frailty Team, Surrey Downs Health & Care. Her passion is widening access to palliative care, especially for older people with dementia and frailty, and promoting cultural awareness and a person-centred approach to clinical practice.
Using her lived experience, she strives to support others with recognising dying and embarking on honest conversations to improve the experience for patients and their families at the end of life. She is interested in quality improvement and inter-professional education.
